The majority of the art work displayed at the United Nations Headquarters has been presented as a gift from member states to the UN. The iconic ‘Knotted Gun’ was a gift from the government of Luxemburg. It was designed by the Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd in 1980 right after his friend John Lennon was murdered. The ‘Knotted Gun’ represents peace and non-violence. There are 22 copies of this sculpture, most of which are located in Sweden.
